Susana Torres - IDCORE Research Engineer joins the team

We are delighted to welcome Susana Torres, an Industrial Doctoral Centre for Offshore Renewable Energy (IDCORE) Research Engineer, to the ForeCoast® Marine team.

IDCORE is a joint programme run by the Universities of Edinburgh, Exeter and Strathclyde. IDCORE students participate in a strong inter-disciplinary training programme and then undertake research projects with leading companies, resulting in the joint award of a Doctorate in Engineering (EngD) by the Universities of Edinburgh, Exeter and Strathclyde.

The research

Susana’s research will focus on the development of sophisticated methods for modelling the reliability of offshore wind turbines. Once developed, verified and tested, the methods will be used to advance our marine logistics and metocean risk management software - ForeCast® Marine’s.

Before enrolling on the IDCORE programme, Susana worked as an electrical engineer in the oil and gas industry specialising in early field development, as well as the engineering, design and construction of production and processing facilities. Susana holds a MSc degree in safety and reliability engineering for oil and gas from the University of Aberdeen, and a MSc degree in electrical engineering.

Susana commented, “I am delighted to be joining the ForeCoast® Marine team, to have the opportunity to develop innovative solutions and contribute to the deployment of the offshore renewable energy industry.”

JBA research engineers

Having hosted two Research Engineers from an earlier programme, we’re no stranger to Susana’s academic training and the calibre of the students it attracts. JBA has also employed several IDCORE graduates, including current employee Laurie Wilkinson. Laurie has recently taken up a central role within the business as Metocean Team Leader, further illustrating the calibre of graduates that the programme produces.

Commenting on the IDCORE programme, Mark Lawless, JBA Director said “When we became a sponsor company in 2014, we could not have anticipated the contribution that the programme would bring to the development of services offered by the ForeCoast® Marine team. The level of commitment and technical calibre displayed by the IDCORE research engineers and graduates is exceptional and we look forward to working with Susana as she joins her IDCORE contemporaries with us”.
