JBA welcomes fourth IDCORE Research Engineer

This summer JBA Consulting was joined by Anthony Gray, a former Industrial Doctoral Centre for Offshore Renewable Energy (IDCORE) Research Engineer. As a sponsoring company of the IDCORE programme, JBA is no stranger to Anthony’s academic training and the calibre of the graduates that it produces.

IDCORE is a joint programme run by the Universities of Edinburgh, Exeter and Strathclyde. IDCORE students participate in a strong inter-disciplinary training programme and then undertake research projects with leading companies, resulting in the joint award of a Doctorate in Engineering (EngD) by the Universities of Edinburgh, Exeter and Strathclyde.

JBA currently hosts two IDCORE students (Ben Hudson and Edward Kay) in the Marine and Coastal Risk Management (MCRM) team together with a recent IDCORE programme graduate, Laurie Wilkinson, who joined the team at the end of 2016.

As members of the MCRM team, the IDCORE engineers/graduates provide unique and innovative “conception to completion” coastal and maritime engineering design services and help clients minimise risks using its sophisticated metocean forecasting and planning tool – ForeCoast® Marine.

Commenting on the IDCORE programme, Mark Lawless, JBA Director said “When we became a sponsor company in 2014, we could not have anticipated the contribution that the programme would bring to the development of services offered by the MCRM team. The level of commitment and technical calibre displayed by the IDCORE research engineers and graduates is exceptional and we look forward to working with Anthony as he joins his IDCORE contemporaries with us”.

David Ingram, IDCORE Programme Director, University of Edinburgh added “IDCORE exists to support the offshore renewable energy industry, we attract some of the best postgraduate students onto our programme and are very proud of their achievements. We are delighted that JBA recognises the quality of our students by employing two of our recent graduates and sponsoring two research projects.”
